Is Tom Ford going Mad for his feature-film directing debut?

Sounds like it. I'm hearing the former Gucci designer has brought in award-winning production designers from AMC's hit series Mad Men for his big-screen adaptation of Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel, A Single Man.

That certainly makes sense...

The highly stylized Mad Men takes place in the early '60s—so does A Single Man, which centers on a gay college professor dealing with the recent death of his lover in Los Angeles.

As I first reported, it looks like Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Jamie Bell will star in the flick. Filming is set to begin in November and is expected to wrap by the end of the year.

A rep for Ford declined to comment.

Earlier this year, Mad Men production designer Dan Bishop and art director Christopher L. Brown picked up an Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild for their work on the series.
