Lindsay Lohan's got a friend in Tom Arnold.

E! News has learned exclusively that the erstwhile True Lies star and former hubby of Roseanne has been spending some quality time with Lindsay Lohan while both are currently residing at the Betty Ford Center.

According to a source close to the starlet, Lohan could use a rehab buddy during this, her fifth and arguably toughest, stint in treatment.

"She is feeling a bit lonely and wants to hear from her friends," the source says. "She can only have a few select visitors. [Mother] Dina is going to visit her on Sunday."

One person who's been lending her comfort and support is Arnold.

"Tom Arnold has been really nice to Lindsay," adds the source. "He's been trying to make friends with her."

Arnold's publicist confirmed the 51-year-old funnyman checked into Betty Ford two weeks ago to seek treatment for a prescription pill addiction following a recent colon surgery. The rep declined to comment on Arnold's interactions with the troubled actress.

But lest anyone thinks Lohan and Arnold might be getting too chummy, an insider at the Rancho Mirage, Calif., facility says that campus rules prevent much face time.

"Men and women are segregated," the source says, "and don't interact beyond any group sessions."

The Betty Ford Center is known for having some strict rules, especially in the "most severe" treatment, which Lohan is learning the hard way. For instance...

  • Lindsay does not have a cell phone.
  • Lindsay is not allowed ever to be alone outside the center; she must always have either a fellow rehabber or counselor or volunteer with her.
  • Lindsay is not allowed to wear sunglasses or hats, which can be used to hide contraband or the effects of drug use.
  • Lindsay is being drug tested regularly.
  • Lindsay is allowed to leave campus, but must be supervised and have earned leaves. Among her field trips: a shopping expedition.
  • Lindsay is not allowed to have any alcohol-based products, including nail polish remover, hair gel, hairspray, medicines.
  • Lindsay is not allowed to have caffeine, but she is allowed to smoke in a designated area.

All this fun is setting back Lohan about $50,000 for what's anticipated to be a 90-day stay. Should she meet the progress requirements, she'll then move to a group house off campus next month in addition to attending regular AA meetings.

Lohan's next scheduled court hearing is Oct. 22, when she'll learn her fate for violating the terms of her probation when she flunked a couple of drugs tests as part of the terms of her probation in her DUI case.

Judge Elden S. Fox previously warned Lilo "that any positive or missed test will result in 30-day jail sentence."

And there won't be any Tom Arnold to hang out with there.
