Redmond O'Neal Rung Up on Heroin Charge

The 24-year-old son of Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett was charged today with a single felony count of drug possession following a weekend bust. In what can only be described as the ultimate boneheaded move, the younger O'Neal got caught packing what authorities believe was heroin while trying to visit a buddy in a Southern California lockup.

Redmond is due to be arraigned today at Santa Clarita court. Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $50,000. No comment yet from his lawyer.

O'Neal made the wrong kind of headlines just as his mom was being treated at an undisclosed Los Angeles hospital for complications from a procedure as part of her three-year battle with cancer.

This is the second drug arrest in the past six months for Redmond, who attempts to follow his folks into acting has been thwarted by his habit.

He was already on three years' probation for drug possession and misdemeanor driving under the influence when he was arrested last September for possession of methamphetamines during a routine probation check at his house. He subsequently entered a two-week detox program.
