Oops. So apparently there's going to be a major, shocking death on The Walking Dead. And now, well, the cat's out of the bag.

Thanks to huge snafu on the part of the network's DVD marketing folks (per AMC, an outside vendor and not the same people who coordinated the widely criticized and unanswered "Who killed Rosie Larsen?" campaign for The Killing?), we now know exactly who it is.

We wish we didn't. So run (don't walk) away now if you don't want to be spoiled yourself…

Shane's (Jon Bernthal) a goner.

In the AMC website ad for The Walking Dead Limited Edition Season 2 Blu-ray 4 Disc Set (available in August), the bonus features are described as including "the making of the barn, an extended zombie gut scene, Shane's last episode…"

Eek. Heads are gonna roll after this goof—and thanks to the zombie series, we've got a pretty graphic idea of what that looks like.

"The post on the AMC store was completely unauthorized, AMC said in a statement. "The matter is currently under investigation."

And now we know what Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd meant when she teased the second-season "jaw-dropping" finale. At the winter TCAs, Hurd told us, "I have a feeling even with inveterate tweeters during episodes…there may be some significant periods of silence, because people may not be able to click on their keyboards."

We dreaded Shane's death ever since Variety reported that Bernthal was in talks to play the lead in TNT's L.A. Noir pilot. The period drama would reunite with the actor with Dead's former showrunner Frank Darabont, who abruptly left TWD at the beginning of its sophomore season.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to readers of Robert Kirkman's original comic books—Shane is killed early on in that series. In the most shocking manner possible.

That's all we'll say on the matter. Haven't we had enough spoilers for today?
