Did she write the letter? Did she not write the letter?

Last week, some buzz started circulating around Wendy Williams when she read aloud to her audience a letter that she claimed was sent from Oprah Winfrey. The purpose of the note was to debunk Williams' speculation that Winfrey and BFF Gayle King's friendship was coming to an end since Oprah's other half was leaving the OWN Network for a new job.

Well, according to King, this letter is fake.

Just to clarify, the letter didn't contain any harsh words to Williams (who seemed super giddy about receiving it), but just plainly said that Oprah has no hard feelings toward Gayle's decision to take a cohosting job on CBS This Morning.

Regardless, King felt the need to share on Tom Joyner's radio show, Black America Web, Friday that, "I know Oprah never wrote a letter to Wendy," and even explained that she called O and asked about it to make sure.

"I said, 'I'm getting all these messages that you wrote a letter to Wendy,'" King told the radio host. "She goes, 'Gayle, you know more than anybody knows that that's not true.'"

"When this opportunity was presented to me—and make no mistake, it is an opportunity—the first people I talked to were Oprah, my son and my daughter," she said. "[Oprah] said, 'Are you kidding? This is so what you do, the news is what you love...you would be crazy to pass it up.'"

So that's that, right? Wrong.

Today, Williams spoke to Joyner to fire back at King's comments, saying the woman who sent her the letter was named Chelsea Hettrick, and that she had sent the letter twice.

"I have no reason to lie about this," Williams said. "You could not imagine that this woman just sent the letter out on her own accord."

And so the mystery continues.
