Mandy Moore is off-limits.

Ryan Adams declined to discuss his marriage to Moore during an Australian radio show, saying, "I just don't share at all about my private life." When the interviewer persisted, the singer-songwriter hung up.

At first, it seemed innocent. "@TheRyanAdams thanks for the chat today, @rosewal and I thoroughly enjoyed it, shame it ended so abruptly. I'll kepp an eye out for Shark," Higgo tweeted Aug. 21. Adams replied, "@Higgo74 @rosewal sorry we got disconnected! PLEASE let me know if you find 'Shark!!!'"

The trio were referring to the pinball machine from the '80s.

The musician, 39, later told Buzzfeed why he really cut the conversation short. "I was really nice about it the first time, and I'm sorry, but I won't repeat myself. The deal is this: I'm a private person and I'll be a gentleman and say I'm not talking about my marriage ever," Adams said. "I'll never talk about it. Ever."

Adams vowed to keep other aspects of his private life sacred, too. "I'll talk about rescue cats for a few seconds. But even there I don't want to talk about my pets. If I have children I'm not going to discuss that with anyone ever," the singer-songwriter said. "I'll suggest it once and then I'm going to hang up."

He sighed and added, "I don't really have a history of uplifting myself in the public eye."

Adams met Moore just after he was diagnosed with Meniere's disease and announced he planned to quit the music business in 2009; they secretly tied the knot that same year. "My wife once said, 'You were like a bird in too small of a cage and I was watching your wings thrash against the side of this thing. You needed space. You needed to just fly free,'" the rocker told Buzzfeed. "And she was exactly right."
