Some serious girl power is coming to the Spider-Man franchise!
E! News can confirm Sony Pictures is planning to expand this cinematic universe by recruiting one of its female superheroes for a spinoff flick. As first reported by Deadline, the studio hopes the film can be released as early as 2017.
Earlier this year, The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb shared the possibility of having a Spider-Woman come to life on the big screen.
"This hasn't been on my mind," he told E! News. "But it's an interesting idea."
The latest announcement comes at a time when the popular franchise is busy expanding.
At San Diego's Comic-Con, fans learned Sinister Six would be released to theatres nationwide on Nov. 11, 2016. The spinoff will revolve around all the villains of Spider-Man who come together to destroy New York City.
But while one movie's release date is coming sooner than expected, another is getting pushed back. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 won't be released until sometime in 2018.
Lucky for us, Spider-Woman will soon be able to fill the void!
