Artist did not attend music's biggest event, despite being up for two awards

Did Kanye West have a hunch he wasn't going to win a Grammy on Sunday?

Perhaps, seeing how the rapper decided not to attend music's biggest night, despite the fact that he was up for two awards.

Instead, West opted to simply spend time at fiancée Kim Kardashian's family beach house in Malibu, Calif., on Jan. 26.

Casually dressed in a white shirt and a pair of jeans, the guy could be seen at one point chatting it up on his cell phone while standing on the balcony.

Then again, given West's recent rant against the Grammys, it doesn't exactly come as a complete shock that he chose to sit this year's ceremony out.

During his concert in Phoenix on Dec. 10, the 36-year-old artist didn't hesitate to speak his mind regarding the lack of nominations he had received for his critically acclaimed Yeezus album.

"Yeezus is the top one or two album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys," he told the audience. "What are they trying to say?"

West was up for Best Rap Album for Yeezus and Best Rap Song for "New Slave," but lost in both categories to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
