Liza Minnelli Breaks Her Wrist and Performs Through the Pain to Support Sister Lorna Luft

Legendary entertainer hit the stage with Luft, who's battling breast cancer and was host of the evening's benefit, and then returned to the hospital

The 67-year-old entertainer hit the stage with half-sister Lorna Luft at a benefit tonight in New York City—the siblings' first time performing together in 20 years—and then headed right back to the hospital for further treatment.

Hey, if anyone knows the saying "the show must go on..."

According to Minnelli's rep, she broke her wrist in three places Sunday night while rehearsing at home and doctors advised her not to perform. But Monday's benefit was particularly close to her heart.

Luft, 60, is battling breast cancer and she was hosting the event at the famed Birdland jazz club to benefit The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative and Tower Cancer Research Foundation's Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund.

"Nothing was going to stop me from coming here tonight," Minnelli said before taking the stage. "Lorna asked me to be here and I wouldn't let her down."

The singer-actresses are both the daughters of Judy Garland. Luft opened up about her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, telling Fox News in August that stopping to undergo treatment was the first time she had put her career on hold in 40 years.

"Your attitude has so much to do with your recovery, because it's really easy to curl up in a ball, and stay in bed," Luft said.

"The hard part is saying I'm not going to do this and I'm going to fight this, I'm going to make fun of it, and I'm going to laugh, I'm going to have a sense of humor...So when you are sick, and you really need that. It's amazing how your attitude really will lead to your recovery."

"This event means the world to me," Luft said tonight. "I'm so grateful to be feeling so well and performing again."
