Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesSpeaking out for the first time since Paris Jackson was hospitalized following a reported suicide attempt in June, Katherine Jackson says that her granddaughter is "getting the help she needs."
"She is in a good place," the 83-year-old Jackson family matriarch told Hello! magazine, per the Daily Mail.
Paris, 15, has been under a doctor's care since June 5, prompting her uncle Randy Jackson to take to Twitter last week to express his disapproval that she's been in a psychiatric hospital for "much too long."
But Katherine maintained that Paris is "doing much better" and her treatment is "going good, really good."
"She's my baby," she continued. "It's hard for me, really hard. All I wanted these kids to be is happy. The night [Michael Jackson] died Paris was crying and said 'I want to go and see Daddy, I don't want to be without him.'"
"They were sheltered a lot when Michael raised them," Katherine said, referring particularly to the way. "I had thought about it and I said 'I am not going to raise them like that. But Michael had a good reason. He was trying to protect them...He instilled good manners but it's a different generation, of course, and I don't understand the whole social media thing. They are always on their phones."
Before her hospitalization, Paris was an active presence on Twitter. She even had her biological mother, Debbie Rowe, tweet on her behalf last month: "My daughter has asked that I extend a huge thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers and support," Rowe wrote. "She is strong like her father."
Testifying in the wrongful death case brought by Katherine against AEG Live, which was producing what was to be Michael Jackson's 50-date This Is It show in London when he died in 2009, Rowe teared up talking about how her daughter was still distraught over the loss of her father.
"She tried to kill herself," Rowe said on the witness stand. "She is devastated. She has no life. She doesn't feel she has a life anymore."
