We're used to seeing Ellen DeGeneres on the set of her show every day, but now the talk show host is giving us a peek at her personal life with wife Portia de Rossi.

The couple threw open the doors to their 26-acre Hidden Valley property for the May issue of Elle Décor, which hits newsstands on April 16. Located just north of Los Angeles, the property has a storied past, having been a monastery, rehab center and the home of actor William Powell.

We're guessing there's no shortage of dinner table conversation topics when DeGeneres and de Rossi have guests over!

"When we bought the place, it was a professional horse facility," DeGeneres told the magazine. "But it was really not taken care of."

But DeGeneres fixed that right away, swiftly redecorating the eight-cabin, two-barn property into a rustic yet sophisticated haven.

"I thought it might take Ellen five years to finish the project and she did it in one," de Rossi admitted. "It was shocking!"

And lucky for de Rossi, a keen equestrian, her ladylove also made sure to renovate the stables, so the Aussie actress could house her horses, Mcy and Maeby. (And in case you're wondering, yes, Maeby is named after de Rossi's fictional daughter on Arrested Development.)

But DeGeneres also manages to makes use of the barn. In fact, she turned one stall into a posh sitting room.

"There are times I'll come to the barn and see a beautiful piece of early American furniture where my horses get groomed," De Rossi said. "I have to explain to Ellen that I need to fit a horse in there."

And you thought it was tough trying to wrangle more closet space from your partner!

What do you think of DeGeneres and De Rossi's ranch?
