We don't know if this will prove to be his toughest challenge yet, acting-wise, but Benedict Cumberbatch has certainly taken on his most trying role in the hair department to date!

The star of Sherlock (great hair!) and Star Trek Into Darkness has gone with a platinum bob to play controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, being directed by Bill Condon.

With the British thesp is Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as German tech activist Daniel Domscheit-Berg, who served as a spokesman for the document-mining site until 2010 and then penned Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website.

The script being penned by Josh Singer is based in part on Domscheit-Berg's book. Principle photography on the DreamWorks film kicked off today.

Hence the pic of the far-blonder-than-usual Cumberbatch!

Long before we see him as the embattled web entrepreneur, however, the 36-year-old actor's villainous raison d'être in Star Trek Into Darkness will have been revealed, HBO will have splashed him onscreen in the miniseries Parade's End and a third season of Sherlock should be in the can.

Somehow, we have a feeling we're still going to want more, no matter how silly his hair gets.

The Fifth Estate is due in theaters Nov. 15. Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie and David Thewlis also star.
