How brave is your love?

So asked Beauty and the Beast in all of its promotional materials leading up to the new CW drama's premiere tonight, which introduced the network's young audience to its latest haunted romance. The show is a modern retelling of the classic '80s series, with Smallville's Kristin Kreuk filling Linda Hamilton's shoes as Cat and newcomer Jay Ryan taking over for Ron Perlman as the titular Beast...minus a lot of the hair and prosthetics.

So now that Beauty and the Beast got to ask their question, we have one for you as well: Were you feeling any love for the romantic procedural?

While everyone thinks Det. Catherine Chandler is a little crazy, she knows what she saw: a Beast who saved her life when she was younger (after she witnessed the murder of her mother).

The harrowing experience made Cat want to become a cop, so cut to present-day New York City, where Cat is investigating a seemingly normal case about a fashion editor's death when it happens to connect to the Beast that saved her life. Well, it's kind of hard to call Vincent a Beast. Sure, he has a tiny scar on his face, but one mere scratch does not a hideous monster make. We learn from Vincent that he was a military experiment gone wrong and has been in hiding ever since, occasionally emerging to save damsels in distress.

While we were less than impressed by the show (understatement of the fall TV season), we think it could find an audience if it goes for the "so bad it's good" vibe, acknowledging its ridiculous premise and cheese factor (Velveeta may be suing BATB for how much cheese they squeezed into the pilot). Also, they need far more interesting mysteries if this is going to be case-of-the-week kind of show.
